While exploring our temporary new neighborhood in Modica, Sicily, I ran across this charming little scene. I was struck by just how quintessentially European it was. The patina of age on the building faces, the moped unattended out front and the empty little blue table belonging to the temporarily closed cafe next door, waiting in the street for someone to sit at it. While supermarkets exist in Europe in general and Italy in this case, small shops like butchers and the like are more common than in the U.S.
One last note... the color harmony here looks like it was set up for me. As if someone knew I would be walking along with a 35mm camera and chose a blue table to balance the red "Do not enter" sign across the frame. Thank you photographic fate.
